In commemoration of their deeds and valor, grand monuments were oft built by emperors, as if by immortalizing themselves in forms larger than life, they could overpower and overcome the vastness of the world. But time waits for no one, and no matter how mighty, they are swallowed by the unavoidable march of the ages and are overwritten by those who come after them; the actions repeated, the legacies built over, as if by doing so, the successors can prove themselves grander.
And then once more, they too are enveloped by the tides of time.
