Hyakki Yako

Every summer, once each year, signals the start of the demon’s parade – a long march in the night. Demons from all over gather, lanterns in hand to light their path, to begin the procession which ends at the feet of their great queen. And if any should be unlucky enough to chance upon this grand parade, join it they must, otherwise the penalty shall be harsh. So if you ever happen to chance upon these people, think not and follow the nearest lantern. Be beguiled by the light and blindly pledge allegiance to the queen. Surely one will be rewarded in the end, as one is at the end of all parades.
